By combining the power of our culture with cannabis and the emergence of Afrofuturism, we’ll not only increase our ownership across related industries but we’ll also defy stigma, reclaim our narrative and foster independent ecosystems.
Today we will further dissect the connection between vibranium and cannabis and how our community can bridge this fantasy world to our reality.
What is Vibranium?
Vibranium - a fictional metal - can be found in various storylines throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) from the shield of Captain America in The First Avenger to the supercharged capabilities of the Black Panther and the Wakandan nation in both, the eponymously titled first film as well as the recent sequel, Wakanda Forever.
Vibranium is embedded into the very fabric of Wakanda, enhancing its soil, science and technology, proving to be one of the strongest elements known to mankind and beyond. With extraordinary durability, strength and energy absorption powers, the element has contributed to not only the safety of the planet but the survival and security of the Wakandan people. However, with as much power comes great responsibility as the security and protection of vibranium remains a constant priority as its dissemination would create doom and destruction to life as they know it - a plot we see explored in both films. So how does the fictional element of vibranium compare to cannabis?
Comparing Vibranium and Cannabis
In real life today, cannabis is a popular, highly politicized topic while in the MCU, Wakandan leaders warn of the dangers of vibranium becoming a worldwide threat if left in the wrong hands. Notice the similarities between the two stances as decriminalization and descheduling of cannabis gives way to fearmongering from opponents who are either ignorant of its benefits or stand to lose money from the rise in availability and use of it. Both of these elements pose threats to the social norm of their respectives societies, giving power to the less fortunate, while taking power away from elites.
Similar to the strength given to the Black Panther from heart shaped herb, cannabis contains medicinal properties which promote advanced healing, strength and spiritual growth - amongst other capabilities - and can be used dynamically to create various outputs. From biofuels & green renewable energy to transportation, construction materials, food, clothing and over 50K additional commercial uses, cannabis lowers our dependence on harmful products, processes and industries.
Creating Wakanda In Real Life
In reading between the lines, we can see how the Black Panther franchise provides a blueprint of how we can improve & expand our relationship with cannabis to create independent, sustainable, and self-governing ecosystems. In order to rise above the constant states of division, distraction and dependance which plague our community today, we must reframe our relationship with the plant and organize our efforts to leverage it as a vehicle for our liberation and to ultimately realize Afrofuturism powered by cannabis™.
